Hi WHS friends!

Maybe you can help me out with this forgotten memory!

Today is my birthday, so I woke up dreaming of cake. :-) But not just any cake. There was a local chain of restaurants in Whittier that featured some amazing cakes, pies, and tarts, but I can't for the life of me remember their name!

They had seasonal strawberry pies and tarts regularly on display in the front of the restaurants in glass coolers during the summer months, and they had two kinds of amazing cakes, as well. One was strawberry whipped cream cake, which was yummy, but my favorie was chocolate banana whipped cream cake! After all these years, there are still times when I long for a slice (or two) of that delicious cake. I remember one year my parents got one to celebrate my birthday, and it was the best birthday cake ever!

As far as I can remember, at least one of the restaurants was on Whittier Blvd.

OMGosh! As I wrote this, a memory came to me of the frosted glass that seperated the booths in the restaurants, and a clue of their name! Embedded in the glass were images of jacks from the kids game of jacks, and of course, that was the name of the restaurants, Jack's! (At least that's what I think it was!)

It's good to know there are still some brain cell holding these old memories for the moment when they're needed, lol! Well, maybe some of you can join me for a piece of cake at the reunion, if they're still in business, and if the cakes are as good as my memories! At least now I can check Google to see if they're still there.

Jacks was one of our favorite places to eat.  I took my children there many years ago.  Not sure they are still in business but they were on Whittier Blvd. not far from Painter.  That's a great memeory to have.  Sandy Dohlman

A friend down here in Oceanside got excited by my description of the cakes and called them. They are still in business, but don't offer the cakes any more. :-( Ah well, it will be interesting to see if anything remains from our youthful memories. If not, we'll just make some new ones. :-)

Hi Glen - At first, I thought you were describing Carver's .... out on Whittier Blvd.... close to Bob's. YES, Jack's Beverly was the hangout for many of us walking from Dexter.... Hope to see you at the reunion, Glen!
