From the above article in the Napa Valley Register:

Christopher McCluer, born Jan. 31, 1950, in Inglewood, California, passed away peacefully at the family’s home in Vallejo, Calif., on Sept. 15, 2014. Chris spent most of his adult life in the Napa Valley as an educator, beloved by students, administrators and the community.

Chris was an advocate for peace and a protector of the environment, a man with political beliefs he fought for, a lover of the outdoors, especially the Sierra Nevada Mountains. His love for the 49ers, Giants, Warriors and the Grateful Dead were unparalleled.

Above all else, he loved his wife, children, family and friends. His adventurous spirit and desire for peace live on in all who knew him.

I am extremely saddened to read this news about Chris, one of my closest friends in High School. Great guy, lots of fun. Rest in peach my friend.

I remember Chris as a really good sprinter in high school.  We enjoyed the same musical tastes and had many good political conversations, especially during the summer of 1968.  I lost touch with him after that.  I'm sorry to hear this sad news.

Very sad to hear. Enjoyed Chris in high school and me and Fred Padilla saw him afterwards living in a tree house in N. Cal.

Saddened to hear that our old friend Chris McCluer pasted away this month-way too young. He is pictured here (bottom left) in the Carstens' driveway during the summer of '68 along with Gary Rodriguez (top left), Herman Carstens (bottom center), his sister Alma (bottom right) with me behind her.  Recognize anyone else in the picture?

Very sad to hear about Chris.

I remember many good times throughout High School in classes and sports, he was really cool.  Especially when we would go up to the Brockman's and hang out with our girl friends, away from the school theme.  I think he was seeing Margie and I was seeing Jeannie at the time.  Those were good memories.

Chris and I had Goverment together our Junior year, I think Barnes may have been the teacher and one day the class was questioned as to who the great men in history were and the teacher took the answers and listed the names given by the class on the black board. I didn't hesitate and was first to answer and blurted out Nitschke an Chris said "Oh yeah! "He's my favorite too." The teacher said oh Fredrich Nietzsche the German philospher and started to write his name when Chris and I stopped him and said no "Ray Nitschke Middle line backer for the Green Bay Packers #66."

I didn't know Chris that well.  We played football together and I remember him beng on the track team.  I would like to know a little more detail about what Chris had been doing after he moved up north.  Anybody know where we can find out more about his life after Whittier?  Perhaps we can do a little more in depth memorial for him.  I called him and tried to get him to come to our last reunion but was unable to sway him. I would liked to have seen him again.
